EVALUATION: QUESTION 3
Audience feedback is important in order to find out what the audience liked or disliked, as well as what their expectations are regarding the indie-rock genre music video we’re presenting to them. We gathered our audience feedback by interviewing people and making a video of them answering questions about our music video. We received lots of positive comments regarding our music video, these included people enjoying the theme of happiness and friendship that is portrayed. As well as the variety of shots we used and the high quality of the footage.
The negative comments that we received were that the lip synching was out of synch in places, some footage appeared jerky and the narrative could’ve been much stronger or obvious to the audience. Regarding the lip synching being off in places, I have to agree with this comment. When I watched our music video back it appeared that some parts seemed to out of time, upon reflection if we were to create another music video then we would take extra care to ensure the lip syncing would be perfect. Regarding the comment about some footage appearing too jerky, switching from one scene to another quite quickly, I have to disagree. This effect was intentional as we wanted our video to have a ‘montage’ feel to it, as we thought this would best represent our narrative of friendship. In terms of making the narrative stronger and obvious to the audience, we possibly could have used some archive footage to show how the friendship between the characters has blossomed over the years. However, we found it very difficult to acquire this footage and due to the deadline approaching we decided to stick to using only present-day footage.
When we asked the audience what impression of the band they got from watching our music video, they said that we appeared as down-to-earth, regular people. As well as being happy people who want their audience to feel the same way. This links to Hall’s reception theory, as our audience has taken the dominant reading of our music video, as we aimed to represent ourselves as ordinary people as it linked well with the indie-rock genre.
